A stadium debut always creates special moments, but what happened this weekend in Miami has already become part of history. Lionel Messi scored the first-ever goal for Inter Miami at Nu Stadium, during a 2-2 draw against Austin FC, in a match filled with emotion, tribute, and excitement.

The occasion also included a permanent tribute to the Argentine star, with a stand inside the stadium now bearing his name.

A quick response after a tough start

The match didn’t begin easily for the home side. Austin FC struck early, scoring in the 6th minute and putting immediate pressure on Inter Miami.

However, the response came quickly. In the 10th minute, Messi found space inside the box and headed in a cross from Ian Fray to level the score. The goal not only equalized the match, but also became the first official goal in the club’s new home.

A high-intensity battle

The game maintained a fast pace throughout. Inter Miami pushed to control possession, but Austin regained the lead early in the second half with a goal in the 53rd minute.

Just when it seemed the debut would end in defeat, Luis Suarez stepped up to score the equalizer late in the match, securing a point for the Florida side.

Messi leads another historic moment

Beyond the result, the night clearly belonged to Messi. With this goal, he adds another milestone to his career, becoming the first player to score for Inter Miami in their new stadium, while also reaching five goals this season.

The tribute stand in his name further highlights his impact on the club and the city.
