In the world of luxury events —Chanel, Fendi, Hermès, you name the brand— there’s one big question many of us have: if I get invited, do I have to buy something?
Sure, the invite sounds glamorous: champagne, glass displays, sparkles, and that feeling of being in the VIP secret room. But what happens when you feel the pressure that if you don’t buy anything, you’ll look bad?
To clear things up, Marta O (@by.martao on TikTok) laid it out clearly in her viral video:
“They invite me and I go, but that doesn’t mean I’m going to buy a bracelet, a watch, or whatever they show me.”
Just like that. Marta makes it clear from the start: she goes to look, enjoy, and get inspired — but she doesn’t feel obligated to buy. And if she’s not feeling the urge to spend, she simply doesn’t.
So, Do They Invite You Again If You Don’t Buy?
Here comes the big question we all wonder:
If you don’t buy anything, do they still invite you to these exclusive events?
Marta says yes. As long as you behave respectfully, are upfront, and don’t create false expectations (like pretending you’re going to drop thousands just to walk out empty-handed), brands usually understand.
“I prefer to be honest about my intentions from the get-go. That way, everyone’s happy.”
That said, Marta also warns us that some events do have mandatory purchases — and they say so right on the invite. In those cases, she’s firm:
“I just don’t go to those events. Because no one is going to force me to buy something.”

I love how Marta reminds us that you’re not obligated to buy something at an event just because you were invited.
